Music
Meet Ms.Abbate!
Our students at IMS are exploring music in a variety of ways! The goal is for our children to become tuneful, beatful, and artful music-makers while inquiring about the material to which they are exposed. Children in all grades participate in pitch exploration activities by making sliding sounds with their voices, In pre-k and kindergarten we have been "tracing" shapes and letters with our voices. Ask your child to show you how! We sing many different songs, play classroom instruments to practice steady beat, learn folk dances, and play singing games. In second grade, students begin to read and write music! We've had some wonderful compositions created already! Third graders have been putting those music literacy skills to work by learning to play the recorder.

Band
Meet Mrs. Zirbel!
In Fourth grade, IMS students try out the band instruments and choose which one they would like to play. They can choose from flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone and percussion. Every week students have a lesson on their chosen instrument. The Fourth grade band meets during the school day as a full ensemble to prepare for performances. Band students may also participate in an afterschool "Pep Band."
